Hydroline’s ESG Commitment

What are our ESG goals? At Hydroline, sustainability is not just a responsibility but the foundation of our future as a trusted partner for OEMs and a leader in motion technology.

At Hydroline, sustainability is not just a responsibility but the foundation for our future as a trusted partner for the OEMs and a leader in motion technology. As we highlighted in our earlier blog Our journey to a sustainable tomorrow: Hydroline’s roadmap for an energy efficient smart factory,” we are committed to ensuring that our operations, products, and innovations contribute to a more sustainable world.

Today, we continue that journey with clear ESG goals and actions that reflect both our commitment to the environment and our dedication to technological advancement.

Cutting CO₂ emissions step by step toward net zero

We are actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our operations in Finland and Poland. Our ESG roadmap follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and covers both Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) emissions. While electricity and district heating remain the largest contributors, we have already reduced our total emissions from the base year and are on track toward our long-term targets.

Key steps on our path include:

  • Transitioning to 100% renewable energy for district heating.
  • Electrifying our company fleet to eliminate fossil fuel dependency.
  • Increasing the share of renewable electricity in all operations.
  • Exploring alternatives to natural gas and continuously developing energy-saving measures.

Our ultimate ambition is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, with significant reductions already planned along the way.

🔋 Energy efficiency at the core

Today, over 85% of the energy Hydroline uses already comes from renewable sources. This is a major step forward, but why would we stop there? We are continuously optimizing energy use at our factories:

In Vuorela, Finland, we are improving efficiency in electricity and district heating, which form the backbone of our operations.

In Stargard, Poland, we are driving changes in the energy mix to lower emission intensity and adopt more renewable sources.

For us, energy efficiency is not only about cost, but about responsibility, competitiveness, and resilience.

💡 Innovation for a sustainable industry: EMA solutions

At Hydroline, sustainability also means pioneering technologies that help our customers transition to smarter, cleaner solutions, whether through more energy-efficient production methods, digital monitoring tools, or entirely new motion technologies like our EMA solutions. This spring, we introduced our Electromechanic (EMA) movement solutions, designed to complement our hydraulic expertise.

EMA solutions provide:

  • Energy efficiency with up to 90% overall efficiency and energy recovery rates up to 70%.
  • Precision and reliability, with advanced motion control and predictive maintenance.
  • Cleaner operation, eliminating the need for hydraulic oils.
  • Flexibility, with customized solutions for diverse applications.

As industries shift toward electrification, EMA represents our decades-lasting readiness to embrace change and support our OEM partners in navigating the transition. By combining hydraulics with EMA, we deliver the right solution for every application balancing performance, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.

🔍 Looking beyond our own operations

While our current ESG work focuses on Scopes 1 and 2, we are preparing to expand into Scope 3 emissions covering our supply chain and product lifecycle. By 2027, we will have a complete Scope 3 emissions inventory and set new targets that extend our sustainability impact beyond our factory walls.

But why does this matter? For us, Scope 3 is about responsibility and transparency. The majority of a company’s carbon footprint often lies in its supply chain and the use of its products and not just in its own direct operations. By addressing Scope 3, we are taking accountability for the broader impact of our business and ensuring that our sustainability progress is not just internal but shared across our entire value chain.

For our OEM partners, this means:

  • Better alignment with global ESG standards: Many industries are under growing regulatory and stakeholder pressure to demonstrate sustainability throughout their supply chain.
  • Stronger collaboration opportunities: By openly measuring and reducing Scope 3 emissions, we create new ways to work together with our customers and suppliers toward common climate goals.
  • Future-proof partnerships: OEMs can be confident that Hydroline is not only meeting today’s expectations but also preparing for tomorrow’s requirements.

In short, Scope 3 is about going further—beyond compliance, beyond our factory gates, and beyond short-term goals—to ensure that our impact is meaningful and lasting. It strengthens our role as a proactive, responsible partner who shares the same vision as our customers: a more sustainable future for the entire industry.

💚 Final thoughts

At Hydroline, we believe that sustainability is not a separate project—it is part of who we are and how we operate. Every step we take, from cutting emissions in our factories to investing in next-generation technologies like EMA, is designed to create long-term value for our partners, our employees, and the planet, as well.

We know that OEMs are under increasing pressure to deliver solutions that are not only reliable and high-performing but also sustainable. By integrating ESG into our core strategy, we make it easier for our customers to meet their own sustainability goals without compromising quality or efficiency.

And yes, this journey has a long road ahead. The work we are doing today to improve energy efficiency, expand renewable energy use, and prepare for Scope 3 emissions is laying the foundation for a future where Hydroline stands as both a technological innovator and a sustainability leader in the hydraulic and motion technology industries. We’re not just adapting to the changes shaping our industry, we are helping to lead them. Together with our partners, we’re building a greener, smarter, and more resilient future for motion technology.
