How to utilize LEO’s data

LEO, the predictive maintenance tool for hydraulic cylinders, is a system with which we are able to gather data from machine’s hydraulic cylinders. With the gathered data, we can produce information about the hydraulic cylinder’s activity and condition. This blog will tell you about the benefits of the data that LEO gathers, and how to utilize that data. To learn more about LEO, read our previous posts about it:

In this blog we’ll tell you how to utilize LEO’s data, gathered from the hydraulic cylinders, in different situations and how it can be used as a part of decision making.

🔧For factories’ maintenance processes and their development

In factory maintenance, it is usually a target that the maintenance procedures would be well planned ahead and scheduled in order to minimize the impact of maintenance outages on company productivity. The data gathered from LEO can be utilized when planning the maintenance and optimizing the maintenance process as a whole. As LEO gathers data while the machines are running, the changes during the process can be detected from the data.

LEO can be utilized, for example, for planning the maintenances by installing it to a specific machine or line which makes it possible to monitor the load on each machine. For example, there can be a situation where a machine operates in an even way and therefore the machine’s cylinder operate evenly as well. In case any changes are detected in the cylinder’s load from the data gathered with LEO, it is a good idea to take the cylinder under observation. A maintenance can be scheduled for a machine’s cylinder; this way the situation can be checked and possible corrective actions can be operated. This is how unexpected – and often expensive – maintenance outages and cylinder damages can be prevented.

🔍Mapping out the fault during a specific time

With LEO we are able to specifically map out and find out the possible faults in hydraulic cylinders. For example, in case a cylinder breaks down and there is no exact information of the reason, the data gathered with LEO can be utilized to find out the fault. With the data it is possible to see how the cylinder works during usage and if there are any pressure peaks that might have an impact for breaking down. Therefore, to obtain further information and map out the problem, the data gathered from LEO helps to determine the cause of the potential fault.

📖As a tool for digital learning

LEO can also be used as a part of training: schools, academies or companies can utilize the data when training new machine drivers. Traditionally, training is based on experiential advice on how to operate a particular machine or device. However, LEO provides data-driven insights into training, for example how a particular driving behaviour affects the machine’s performance.

In addition, the data can be used to highlight the most efficient driving behaviour and to extend the lifetime of the machine. By utilizing LEO’s data, we are able to teach the way of driving which saves the machines and equipment, giving them the longest possible lifecycle.

📏Cost comparison and cost calculations

LEO is also worth using for company’s internal accounting. The collected data allows us to obtain information about the use and consumption of a particular device over a desired period of time. Data provides more clear information for calculating equipment maintenance and maintenance costs.

An example of this could be situation where, for a selected period of time, one machine is used to quarry rock and another machine is used to dig sand. LEO provides insight about how differently these machines have been used, and how different types of work affect the machine to wear as well as the cost of service and maintenance. This is how we are able to calculate the amount of maintenance costs that are incurred for a particular job. By utilizing the data, LEO can be used to refine contract costs and margin calculations
